Laminectomy by Scoville In order to remove bone and tissue during spine procedures, rongeurs are surgical tools. They bear the name William Scoville in honour of the neurosurgeon who created the first rongeurs for use in spinal operations.

These rongeurs have a special design that enables them to bite through bone and tissue. They are normally constructed of premium stainless steel. They have a handle on one end and a pointed, scooping jaw on the other. Depending on the surgical requirement, the jaws may be straight or angled.
