During abdominal procedures, certain surgical tools called “Kirschner Abdominal Retractors” are employed. These retractors have two curved blades or “wings” that are attached to the centre blade and may be moved to retain the incision open at the desired angle. The central blade is put into the incision.

Dr. Paul Kirschner, who invented the Kirschner Abdominal Retractors, is honoured with their name. During the surgery, it will be simpler for the surgeon to observe and access internal organs and tissues thanks to their large, self-retaining exposure of the abdominal cavity.
