Retractors made by Spaer Button Abdominal Retractors, usually referred to as Beckman or Spaer Button Abdominal Retractors, are frequently used surgical tools in a variety of surgical operations. They bear the names Harold D. Beckman and Alfred W. Adson, two American surgeons.

The distinctive shape of Spaer Button Abdominal Retractors enables accurate tissue retraction and exposure. A handle and a single, narrow, curved blade with a slightly flattened tip make up each piece. To improve grip and traction on the tissue, the blade may be smooth or have tiny, delicate teeth or fenestrations.
