Balfour Abdominal Retractors

RI-000052 During surgery, “Balfour Abdominal Retractors” are tools used to hold open the edges of an abdominal incision. This enables the surgeon to see within organs and tissues and to reach them. The Dr. William Balfour, the device’s designer, gave the Balfour Abdominal Retractor its name. Its purpose is to offer a broad, self-retaining exposure of the abdominal cavity. Two curved blades or “wings” are attached to the central blade and can be adjusted to hold the incision open at the correct angle. A central blade is introduced into the wound.
